Hey middle path, I was actually thinking about you earlier. I'm glad you're still around, hope you are keeping well. I hadn't seen you in a while, and was worried you had left.

I considered leaving, but had no where to go. I will be leaving for a few months next year as I will be in boot camp, so you can miss me then.

Do you think voat has been acting weird lately?

[–] middle_path [S] 0 points 11 points (+11|-0) ago

Hell yes. I only wandered around here for a few months lately. Voat has had a pretty nutty user-base since I started (around the time FPH was banned from reddit). Every time a refugee train unloaded here it was nothing but more /pol/ users and vitriol. I don't mind hearing what they have to say, I welcome it. But when a majority of any opinion dominates a site, it becomes annoying. As a moderate, no one is on my side. I have noticed a lot of buzz about new users/spam and I really don't understand why. I would gauge that at any given time this website might have 1K normal visitors a day. This community is so small, most of us all know each other, and for some reason people that have been around for a long time are making new accounts. No idea why.

Contrary to what others believe - I think voat will never become a big community. A lot of people here are worried about Voat blowing up with numbers, but it just won't happen like that. Voat is a rip-off of reddit. You know what never becomes popular? Blatant rip-offs. 4chan, tumblr, facebook, myspace, and reddit all have 1 thing in common - they're unoriginal ideas packaged in a seems to be original format.

I dunno dood. Facebook seems pretty fuckin popular for being blatantly unoriginal. Ya know what really never does become popular? The original. Nobody ever appreciates version 1.0. It always sucks and is always overshadowed by the newer versions and facsimiles. I think voat will become popular someday. I think that because it has simple yet drastic improvements on its predecessors. Things like the CCP restrictions for example.

As a fellow moderate I agree entirely, I'm so exhausted of extreme polarization and hate from both sides. Here it's the far right bullying "who can be the most offensive" dick-measuring-contest culture and on Reddit it's the neoliberal corporate shit, censorship of difficult subjects, and heavy shilling.

I'm thinking of taking a break until the pizza gate stuff settles down. I don't mind voat looking into that case, but the occult info posts - regardless of providing "motive" - and the "OMG the pedo symbols are on my cereal box" boogie-man posts will destroy the efforts of people actually trying to find evidence of crime.

But actually I was wondering about the servers slower update intervals and other page performance experiences that have really changed recently and are not always clearly announced or explained by admin ;-)

I have found the circlejerk of Voat to be growing more extreme and I have found myself posting comments contrary to it lately. I have been getting a mish mash of upvotes and downvotes for it. It's not that I am posting things just to go against the going view. I just look at things in a little more moderate way

I just wanted to say thank you for all the shit you have put up wit. I sure as hell couldn't do that as well as you, that’s why I stick to shitposting and other things like it. If voat was full of people like you, I would absolutely love it

Do you believe in love after love?

[–] middle_path [S] 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

I do. I have been with the same woman for 14 years. Most see us together (since 8th grade) and think that it backs up the idea of a soulmate. I don't believe in the concept, myself. My wife and I simply love each other enough to work on our faults/problems and surpass the limitations that often ruin relationships. I have no plan to leave her, ever. But if we did end up breaking up, I still think I could love another woman.

What's your solution to the "Hobo hit by a bus" problem that is our healthcare debate.

Basically, a hobo with no job and no savings is hit by a bus. He's taken to the nearest hospital via ambulance. Without immediate emergency care, he will die. However, for him to make a full recovery, someone's going to have to kick out ~$500,000 for all of the broken bones/stitches/internal bleeding.

The "Free Market" solution says let him bleed out in the lobby until someone can provide proof of insurance or drop cash for him. Presumably, the hospital can tell that his credit is no good, and it would be bad business to spend $500k treating him.

The "Socialist" solution says everyone gets free healthcare, and the taxpayers pick up the $500k tab one way or another.

The pre-Obamacare clusterfuck says the hospital HAS to treat him until he's no longer critical. Obviously he has no insurance, savings, or ability to pay, so after suing him for the $20 in his pocket, he files for bankruptcy and the hospital marks it up as a loss. This denies the taxpayers the ~30% of the $500k we would have had if someone paid his bill.

So wat do?

I am a huge supporter of the so-called socialist healthcare system. No one has an issue paying the fire department to keep the town from burning, or the police department to keep the streets safe, but once healthcare is brought up - it's all of a sudden a controversial topic. We pay for insurance, and if we don't we're fined. I don't see how that is any different than a tax. And I don't think taxes need to be raised, just used more responsibly - an issue our government already has.

The current system is a huge clusterfuck and my solution is ideal, but most first world countries adopted this method and it works well for them. I would like to live in a society where a man down on his luck doesn't have to worry about being in debt for the rest of his life or death.

I can confirm. Health care is one worry no one has up here. Looking at it as a service is good way to think of it. Why do you think America is so put off by the idea?

[–] PlayByPlayAnnouncer 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Trouble is when it is not a few people down on their luck, but when it is a system which has created a huge underclass of non-contributing individuals which creates a huge burden in those who do contribute, and a moral hazard for those who don't.

In the context of total employment or even a high number I think what you're saying makes sense, but that is far from the case, unfortunately.

Entering US healthcare system is #1 mortality indicator. Not joking.

How the fuck can it cost half a million dollars to stitch someone up, set a couple of bones, and keep an eye on them for 48 hours in a hospital bed?

This is not a problem that is solved by the free market. This is a problem that's solved by the government providing basic services, which yes, does include healthcare. And I mean providing, not "giving a blank check to your golf buddy who owns a couple of hospitals."

what's the best way to begin improving yourself?

[–] middle_path [S] 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Do something consistently. If you want to write a novel, set a time and write every day. Good stuff will come eventually. If you want to get in shape set a time to work out and do it every day. On your rest days, stretch and meditate, but get into the habit.

You will suck at it at first and will want to quit. You'll think you're not good enough and never will be. This is normal, work past it. A few weeks ago, I couldn't do 5 push ups, now I'm doing 30 in a few minutes.

You know what you're putting off, so get to it. Set small easy to meet goals and when you accomplish this, set the bar higher.

I really want to get in to a huge project me and a friend been thinking of, but i just get down on myself so much.

I feel like i'm in some kind of bad loop of a mindset. I'll plan things out at night feel really good and never able to go to bed, still be up at 3-5am and contemplate just staying up all night to reset my sleep schedule and then end up saying nah and falling asleep. Only to wake up so late that I feel bad about myself and have no want to do anything. Then I don't eat because i think i don't "deserve" it then end up eating way too much only to get hungry a few hours later because it's been so long since I eaten.

However, last night I said fuck it and started working out. My back is messed up so I literally can't do a push up, so I did a weird variation of it, my back didn't hurt but i could feel the burn of my upper body but I just kept going til i couldn't do any more. Read a couple pages of a book I been meaning to read then fell asleep around 5. Now it's 4pm just woke up about an hour ago and i feel like shit because it's so late, all over again.

I remember a while ago you were looking down different spiritual paths, what's happening there? Also why is v/justgrowit so quiet lately?

[–] middle_path [S] 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

I am always looking down different spiritual paths. The occult caught my eye a few months ago (I recommend listening to the mystery school on YouTube, I submit link earlier today on v/ThePath). It's not what it appears to be at all.

JustGrowIt is slow because the growing season is over and I've been away from Voat for a bit. I'm also moving next year, so I won't be growing much. I'm a little sad about that, but I'm going be making more money soon, which means I'll be working towards my dream farm.

That's a healthy attitude but don't forget to earnestly examine The Bible.

V/justgrowit is one of my favorite sub's good to hear it's more of a seasonal thing, I've been meaning to post my recent efforts lol

Goodluck on the move mate, I'm sure it'll be an interesting/rewarding change!

Is your name a reference to Buddhism or Socrates/Plato?

1
5

[–] middle_path [S] 1 points 5 points (+6|-1) ago

Yes. At some point a few years ago I noticed polarization before I knew what that word meant. I noticed how between theist and atheists, Dems and Republicans, and even sports teams - people found it easier to cling to an already existing group/opinion rather than formulate their own. So i decided to walk the middle path.
