It's incredible to compare this with what happened 15 years later. Apparently the French started WW1 dressed in the same clothing Napoleon's soldiers wore - bright colours with ridiculous hats. The British had only adopted a banana coloured khaki uniform a few years before the war started. Yet 15 years earlier military commanders were having tea together. I wonder how many lives would have been saved if everyone knew war had changed.
