In this episode, we find out that Hank used to make fun of fat people as a teenager. Praise Hank. As an older man, Bobby tries to use an emotional appeal on him to participate in the "Little Junior Plus Fashion Show". Hank not only recognizes the fallacy and does not let Bobby participate, he lets there be a buildup to the drop that he is out, a lesson that life is full of disappointments and you will often not get what you want, even when you're sure you'll have you're way.
Hank recognizes all the truth there is to be taught about being fat so he lets Bobby continue to be fat, giving Bobby a 'sacrificial lamb' status throughout the series. In this episode though, he does not want the people of Arlen to be subject to fat children (which is why he does nothing to stop the destruction of the stage (Praise Hank)) and he does not want Bobby to believe that fat people are worthy of being models.
