my boss at a small fab shop just called me in to make a foundry for melting aluminum ( i do blade-smithing & casy my furniture & fittings) i have 2 forges. one runs on propane, the other coal. cant find coal here in the south-west w/o crazy shipping $$$$

Did you custom design the propane forge or get inspiration from somewhere in particular? I don't have a ton of space.. Not going to be making a typical workshop setup.

on gawd-awful FB there is (was?) a group called 'blade-smithing for beginners'.. there are many links to building propane burners & forges.
i run a single burner venturi-type, i designed & dialed-in my-self. forge is regular fire brick floor, & 3000* kaowoll for the top & sides, caoted w/ HTC satan-ite ceramic protected by 18ga stainless outter body. i can work 5160 & 4140 w/o much hassle @ about 9psi

tractor supply has coal. cheap. but unavailable for shipping in AZ w/o extra $$$%. sucks. coal forging can change mild steel to high carbon..
