I have 7 of these, they're very solid and I haven't had any issues with their functionality. The blueing is nice, but the cuts are a bit sloppy, especially with sharp edges and burs around the feed lips and spine. I have little cuts all over my fingers from playing with these, but you can fix that with a file/sandpaper, or just wear gloves.

The lockup is definitely on the tight side, which I actually prefer since I can file the rear lug down to make it perfect for my particular rifle. only takes a couple minutes per mag to get them smooth and tight

I need more time shooting them to make a final decision, but I am not sold on the bolt hold open feature. The bolt locks back, but as soon as you remove the magazine it snaps back forward. This makes removing the empty mag harder, since it has the pressure of the bolt pressing it forward. Also, I'll probably get used to it but the bolt flying home Everytime I remove the mag is kind of annoying to me.

The real issue though is that after you remove the mag and load a new one, you still have to charge the rifle just like on a standard magazine. This negates at least 50% of the point of them, since if anything it actually is a bit HARDER to reload compared to a standard surplus mag.

It does give you a visual and tacticle indication when you are empty instead of getting a click on an empty chamber, so that is nice though. One potential downside to this is if you have other non BHO mags, it can mess up your training if you're used to the bolt hold open and then shoot a regular mag and think you aren't empty since you're used to these ones. Whether or not that matters to you is up to you.

I have a Yugo AK with a safety switch that can lock the bolt back, so I thought "hm, what if i flip the safety up when I go empty, change the mag, then flip the safety down to put it in battery". If this worked I would like these mags a lot more, but frustratingly the follower does not hold the bolt all the way back, and it does not line up for this to work.

All that being said, they are EXCELLENT value though, and definitely would recommend you picking some up regardless at this price. I haven't tried every kind of mag so correct me if I'm missing something but I think these are the best mags for your money besides surplus.

I was wondering if the lock open safety would work when I was reading your briefing. I've been browsing their site alot recently looking at their furniture and thought then interesting.

Nice and thorough thanks.

Thanks, yeah it's unfortunate that doesn't work. Apex has good surplus furniture and other parts so if you end up buying stuff from them id say go ahead and throw a few of these mags in your order and see how you feel about them.

Some people say these need a bit of filing depending on the ak that you have. But in general from what i remember drom the deal on reddit, these are solid and a step up from the korean mags.

The only mags that I have found that don't need filing to fit in every AK (that I own) are polymer mags. These needed work to fit in some of my ak, but I expected that....

I have a NoDak Spud receiver and recently bought 4 of these. One fit flawlessly, one worked but you had to give it a good shove, and two didn't fit. All it took was a minute amount of filing though, and they fit no problem. Good and cheap and they do a decent job of getting the cosmoline off before they box em up.

That was for Croatian magazines, these should be better actually. Also, most mags in my experience need a bit of fitting. That over two AK's, and ~5 different types of mags.

How are these magazines? Also, when you say + shipping when you order 5, do you mean free shipping?

Looks like it's discounted 1$ (9.99 to 8.99 per mag) if you buy 5+ mags. S/H is showing as $12.50 for 5 and $15.95 for 6-10 for me.

Mag # 8.99/mag * Mag # S/H $/mag
5 $44.95 $12.50 $11.49
6 $53.94 $15.95 $11.65
7 $62.93 $15.95 $11.27
8 $71.92 $15.95 $10.98
9 $80.91 $15.95 $10.76
10 $89.90 $15.95 $10.59

I can't find any deals on the first google page, wikiarms, or gun.deals that match this for steel mags but I also didn't look very hard.

ya the mags are badass. I don't like the BHO. I have a buddy I trade the followers to though.

they're great mags. I've never had a malfunction with one.

As always, AK magwells vary (especially WASR's), so minor fitment issues are common. I have 10 of these, 2 of them needed a little filing on each side to fit.

There's only 1 or 2 models of Yugoslavian AKs that were made that actually have a real last round bolt hold open feature (sorry forgot which one). The M-70/N-Pap which is probably the most common Yugo AKs and most others do not, and functions the same with these mags. I wish it did though, that would be badass

You really only need it if you have a Zastava/Yugo ak. They are designed to have the bolt hold open on the last round. Most aks don't do that.

They typically ship completely covered in cosmoline so be prepared for that. I find that wd 40 works pretty well when removing that.

Pretty sure these function identically in a Yugo or standard AKM

Bought 10 of these a couple of weeks ago and have had zero issues with them, buy with confidence.

So I'll go against the grain. I bought two of these and figured "if they don't fit it'll only be a bit of filing."

Bit of filing turned into a metric fuckton and still they will not seat. I'm worried if I shave any more off the tab it won't seat. Only thing I could think is the follower, honestly and that'll need more work. A lot of excess stuff on the locking lug, doesn't nearly fit the PMAGs that fit my AK or the surplus mags that seat easy and lock up. Can't tell if it's the tab (which I think it is) or what.

This was an NPAP they wouldn't seat in, same issue with a KCI 10 rounder. My pal bought a few KCI mags and they fit perfect for him so YMMV on all of these issues, depends on the rifle. Might end up filing some more but for now I'm buying all surplus and pmags
