They are trying to ban body armor for anyone who isn't a cop. Curious why you are against ar500.

AR500 is “only” rated III. If you’re dropping coin and deciding to wear something you may as well not half ass it, and get proper IV plates. It costs more, but if this is not just for LARPing then a few hundred bucks is a drop in the bucket.

If the response is that you think IV protection is overkill, then I’d drop plates altogether and get a low profile soft armor IIIA vest. Provides more area coverage against the more common criminal weapons.

I think any rating of “III+” is pure snake oil no matter how many Youtubers (ha, not any more!) test it. Aside, AR500 has had past recalls relating to quality concerns about their plates and linings, which makes me doubly not about to buy their stuff.

There is a bill in Illinois right now working to outlaw the possession of body armor by plebs/civilians (HB1469), though it looks to be extremely likely to pass atm.
