The following method will block your computer from known spam sites.
On every computer, Mac OS/Windows/Linus there is a file called hosts.
on a windows machine it is here :
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
on a linux or mac machine it is here
/etc/hosts
on all systems you can edit this file to add a line that will dump any website into a black hole, preventing your machine from linking to any site that you decide is unwelcome.
In all cases you need "elevated privileges" to edit this file.
That means, in simple terms, that you need to :
Windows, edit the file as administrator
Mac & Linus, edit the file using sudo.
you will need the administrator or root password for your machine.
once you have that, simply edit the file, after supplying your root/admin password and add the following single line at the end of the file:
0.0.0.0 fast-redirecting.com
save the file and restart networking, you may have to restart your computer.
That's it, your coputer is now blocked from that site until you remove that line.
This can be used for as many sites that you want to block..
It's also a good method of adding parental controls to a shared machine.
there is no limit, add as many sites as you wish to block.
