I can chime in on this since I am a coder. I won't say where I work. When we first started testing, I would be working the covid testing que and saw very few positives. I haven't worked it in a while so I don't know what is happening but if a doctor sends a patient to be tested with a dx of U071, which is a specific dx for covid-19 that is being used after 4-1-2020, most likely on the Hosp billing side the coder would use that dx even if the patient tests negative. My buddy who is a coder just had that happen and asked me for guidance on the issue. I told her if it's negative do a screening code on both the rfv, reason for visit, and the primary dx since these numbers are being used to shut down our country it is vital we show the true nature.

You say that you no longer work the COVID queue, do you think this is because you code accurately? Do you think your friend still working the queue may be reassigned for coding accurately?
