I take issue with "quite disproportionately high" because there is a simple and obvious explanation and the way you've written it implies that the numbers are shocking and unexpected. Italian dioceses surrounding Milan reported the deaths of 30 priests which is seems high at first but on closer inspection all but 3 were over 70 and more than half over 80. Much higher than the general population and of an age that Italian doctors decline to treat. When one considers the general activities of a priest and couples it with their older age group, there is nothing surprising here.

I just see horses, not zebras.
