This is how justice works in America now.
When a mega-corp, or a rich family, or a politician, or a government employee has obviously committed numerous crimes, they get investigated.
When a citizen has upset someone or scared someone or triggered someone they get arrested and beaten and tortured, and then eventually they plead guilty in order to avoid facing trial inside our broken bureaucracy of a court system because they know that the court will destroy their life regardless of their innocence.
There is a book about this called "The Trial" written by one Franz Kafka. An excellent read, I do recommend.
