Consider the vastness of space...making the crossing of these distances impossible.

That notion completely ignores the possibility of inter-dimensional travel.

No it doesn't, because extra dimensions exist in the same exact space you are sitting in, right now.

Travel between dimensions is more like changing the channels on a TV, while remaining in the same place, rather than traveling from point A to B.

Imagine it like a goldfish that spent it's entire life in a fish bowl, inside a dark room. Then one day, someone flips on the bright lights, and shatters the bowl. The fish would suddenly find itself in an entirely new universe (dimension) and die shortly thereafter. But the fish didn't really travel anywhere.
