establishment clause and free exercise clause of the first ammendment/thomas jefferson aught to cover it.

The metaphor, coin by Jefferson, was used exclusively to keep the state out of the church's business, not to keep the church out of the state's business. The 1A means that there will be no Nationalized religion, not that religion and politics must be separate. The Pope, addressed the Congress in 2015. The motto of the US is In God We Trust, hardly separations of church and state.

also, the street is bi-directional, separation of church and state means government proceedings do not need to reference un-provable religious deities..... just as much as it it means the state should keep put of the church's business.....
