Worth mentioning that the Rothschild Palestine/Israel link is much older than the Balfour declaration of 1917. MUCH older.

The first mention I know of is from 1836 with early zionist Zwi Hirsch Kalischer, Rabbi of Toun, Poland, writing to the head of the Berlin branch Rothschild regarding Jewish settlement in Palestine. Theodor Herzl did the same in 1895, with something of a plan included as well. There was also support for the first Zionist villages in Palestine around 1882 and beyond.

I'm not really a betting man but if I was, my money would be on the whole thing being the Rothschilds idea and everything that spurned from it, including wars, was too.
