here are a couple of suggestions to help retain your and your family's privacy within the house. obviously the big guys will have ways of getting around this kinda stuff, but it makes it a lot harder.

for your home wifi router, I recommend you get a hardware device called the anonabox (www.anonabox.com). it's a small hardware device that piggybacks on to any existing internet connection and routes it through TOR (the onion routing protocol aka "the dark web") and a VPN. It will slow your connection down a little bit though. If the decrease in speed is too much for you or your fam to deal with, just a VPN alone provides reasonably good security without compromising your speed too much (the way a VPN works is that all your traffic is first routed through an intermediary server, where it's encrypted before being relayed to you).

A small piece of duct tape over the webcam on a laptop works quite well for something quick which you easily peel back when you want to use the webcam.

If I think anything else that may be useful, I'll post it here, but in the meantime, good luck man, I'm sure it can't be easy to go through what you're dealing with.

It doesn't sound to me like you have a whole lot of time or interest in DIY projects, but if you happen to be into microcontrollers, adafruit.com sells a kit for you to make your own anonabox-like router from a Raspberry Pi (essentially a small, handheld linux box) rather easily, I used it personally and found it really cool but I'm a comp sci/math nerd as you may have surmised from my username ;)

for the record, the suggestions above are NOT foolproof, but they'll give you a TON more privacy, security, and anonymity than the average user. I have a PhD in computer science and have been working in the information security field for roughly two decades, and I personally use some of the techniques above.

yes, that works well. Unfortunately the average person doesn't usually have electrical tape lying around the house, duct tape is a bit more common to come across.
