A coworker of mine has ptsd from 9/11. She was NYPD and helped evacuate citizens after the first plane struck. She lost count of how many jumpers she personally heard hit the ground at speed. She saw a few bodies hit but heard many, many more. Think about that. After you associate the sound with the visual, you continue to hear the sound. The "sound" stuck in her head for months after that day.
It's easy to write off as cgi. It's difficult for some to accept that regardless of what caused the towers to fall, people died on 9/11.
