What happens if there is no majority vote for speaker? Back in 1923 I think there were 9 votes before someone was elected. While I was trying to find an answer I did learn this interesting fact:

Under House rules, the Speaker schedules floor votes on pending legislation. The Hastert Rule says that the Speaker will not schedule a floor vote on any bill that does not have majority support within his or her party — even if the majority of the members of the House would vote to pass it.

Hastert had a dem majority. His purpose was to thwart any effort by Reagan to garner any support for his agenda. The dem party has b3an on this path for decades, none of this is new. He along with the dem leader in the Senate and house. Had the same plan as today. Defeat and remove Reagan. Kill him of they could and they tried. Pelosi now finds herself in the position of getting a majority of dems to support MAGA or watch the party crumble. Catch 22.
