Now that the elections are over I can attest to the fact that there were some pretty nasty shenanigans going on out there at least on my local level.
We had an election in my area for a Superior Court Justice where there were two "Republican" candidates on the ballot. One candidate had the most experience and was a life long Conservative Republican. He was appointed to the Superior Court as a replacement for someone else for 3 years and was trying to win the election for himself. He had very little money for his campaign.
The second candidate was a registered Dem up until a few years ago. He registered as a Republican for the area which tends to lean to the right and ran for this office. There was NO Dem on the ballot. Candidate two had no experience as a judge. He was basically an ambulance chaser. This second candidate received endorsement by both the local GOP women's (RINO) AND the local Democratic Party.
In the meantime, there was tons of money coming into the second candidates coffers (mostly Dems funding we assume). In addition, his name was first on the ballot as a Republican (in alphabetical order) So those that voted all RED without doing their homework were actually voting for a Dem in Sheep's clothing.
Needless to say the second guy won and is now going to be installed as a Superior Court Justice in spite of his lack of experience. Money still talks in local elections.

In Ohio, Cuyahoga County, Judges on the ballot are not designated with party affiliation. As a person that was voting all red, I made it a point to research each candidate, I made it a point to understand exactly who I was voting for. I made it a point to be INFORMED and not base my vote on name or party affiliation.

I don't know where to find information for the local politicians in a small rural area.

One of the sources that I used was ballotpedia. Then I used the NRA as source, I google the candidates names, then I review endorsements. I have found that the leftist rags and propagandists in my area supports and endorses corrupt politicians/judges, so I use that as a guide. I researched everything that I could think of. If the left leaning politicians endorsed that was a red flag.
I started researching right after the primary races so I could make an informed choice. Unfortunately I live in the most leftist county in the state. In many instances conservatives don't even bother to run. And dead people vote in record numbers. Voter fraud is rampant but nothing is done, fraudulent votes are counted. In the major city, Cleveland, the number voters in many precincts outnumber the actual number of men, women and children living there.
