The CIA/WAPO on the Trump Rally:

'The president, anxious about the Russia investigation’s widening fallout and the legal fate of his eldest son, has increasingly channeled his internal frustration and fear into a ravenous maw of grievance and invective during public appearances.'

I have a pretty extensive vocabulary, but I had to go look up 'maw', which turns out to be a very interesting and deliberate use of vernacular:

maw (mô) n.

  1. The mouth, stomach, jaws, or gullet of a voracious animal, especially a carnivore.

  2. The opening into something felt to be insatiable: "I saw the opening maw of hell" (Herman Melville).

These sage writers have the luxury (leisure) of mining obscure words and phrases, that's why they're so cool you see. That is a very interesting term to use (don't recall ever hearing it either).
