I've realized that I can't host the Goat's Gulch meetup this year. I made a number of mistakes coming down and one was thinking I could make a livable-enough room and live at the property while working on it. Even though I got internet sorted out and the sleeping space was coming along, it's clear to me that working solo I need to come there as a hobby to work on it and not as a life. In putting all of my eggs in one failed basket, I'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment. While I could move things around and make it back out to the property in time it just wouldn't be wise. If anything happened to my truck along the way I wouldn't be able to afford to fix it. I've been getting the feeling something is off with the truck and it'll come up sooner than later, too.
I've also only had one person able to make it out, maybe one other as well. The 2018 meetup will be a lot better as a number of others can make it. That said, my plan is most likely to move out to El Paso and visit the property every week or two. Once that's the case I'll let you all know and if any of you want to visit in that time you're more than welcome to.
I'm disappointed in myself but believe I will learn from this. Hopefully if I'm able to pull this off I'll be able to share a number of tips on making it successful if others want to do the same.
In the mean while, I'll be saving back up some reserve funds then save up towards investing more into the property. I'm going to try to be better about budgeting and planning.
I'll update the side bar shortly and sticky this. I don't want anyone to be caught off guard after making sudden plans for the meetup or anything like that.
