Scottish as a demographic were probably replaced by Canadian/British Saxon types or Celt Irish names, also its possible the Scots had been 'Americanized' and lost their connections to the ancestral lands. Irish Famine of 1740–1741 and another 1845 - 1849 millions maybe over 2 million emigrated from Ireland. The old Celt Gaelic form of the surname is Mac a Mhaighstir, which means Son of the Master. I don't know how 'real' a name MacMasters was, I think a lot of people could not read or write so its possible immigrants details or names were record incorrectly maybe like an old Celt English Germanic Surname stays or a nickname sticks but it was Derived from Professions like Fiedler, Goldschmidt, Harper, Baker, Taylor, Kellogg, Koch, Cook, Bacon etc
