The university came out and stated that they would not allow professors to grade down students for their speech and stood up for the First Amendment.

This bothers me. Oh, I'm happy to see SJW professors get a kicking, but the First Amendment is entirely the wrong way to approach this. They weren't banning speech, they were saying that certain statements will draw a bad grade. It was an easy handle, but a wrong one.
You might just as well argue you have a First Amendment right to use bad grammar and your professor can't downgrade you for it. Nome sane?

AAVE (african american vernacular english; ebonics) and some similar equivalents related to other groups... continues to revive and might just make it under the current academic process.
of course, most likely to be limited to those on a sports scholarship, but still...
