I've been tossing around the idea of hosting design challenges or competitions on this subverse. I'm not sure how people would feel about it, but it's a good way for us designers to keep our design brains sharp.
At the moment, I don't think there will be any real rewards, however Voat comes through with it's partner program, we can award the ad revenue to the winners of the challenge.
So, with that said -
1.) How frequently would people like these challenges to run? I think monthly would work best for most of us busy people.
2.) As far as competition goes, if we want it to be competitive, how do we feel about using a voting system based on Voat's comment ranking?
3.) As far as constraints go, I think we could start off by designing a game around a theme or a mechanic, or the combination of the two. I think it would be totally fine for submissions to be in any form, whether it's a game design doc or an actual game.
4.) Is this something people would legitimately like? I'd personally love to see this become a regular thing, but it only works if people want to participate.
Ultimately, I think it could lead to some very cool collaborations and conversations involving game design, which will hopefully make us all better designers every challenge.
