There is no reason to use a bank over a credit union.

Damn right.

Regarding the razors; you should make sure to sterilise the razor if you are using it for a long time (months instead of weeks). You can get some nasty infections from a straight razor that isn't regularly cleaned, so if you are stropping and reusing a cartridge, the same principle will apply. Use hot water and an old toothbrush to loosen any buildup of shaving lather, then let it sit submerged in rubbing alcohol or methylated spirits for 15 minutes to sterilise it.

Alternatively, I use a double-edge razor. I do it because I prefer the shave that I get from it, but the blades can cost as little as 10 cents and last as long as a cartridge. You can get started for less than $50 and it will save money in the long term.

As an alternative to Zenni, I recently got some glasses from eyebuydirect.com and the quality was IMHO much better than Zenni's while being marginally more expensive.

Own a 2000 Corolla. Best car ever and literally almost no maintenance beyond brakes and oil. I have 170,000 miles and spent $6,000 cash for it about ten years ago. That means my YEARLY payments are equal to some people's MONTHLY car payments!

Great info. Will be adding to this in the future. For now, my way to be just a little frugal is to look into container gardening. Seeds are cheap and there is plenty of information available on the internet to help the first time gardener. This guyGrowing your Greens, has tons of helpful videos.

Utils you can run from a flash drive:

  • Clamwin. Antivirus you can run from a flash drive.
  • Firefox portable
  • Pendriveapps. Lots of software that runs on flash drives.
  • Portablefreeware. More freeware that runs on flash drives. Makes it easy to take your apps from computer to computer, even to the library if they allow flash drives.
  • Tinyapps. Many of these will run from a flash drive, but they are designed to be tiny. Some of these are for DOS, some are old and won't run in the modern Windows DOS/cmd box.
  • Hiren's boot CD. Many utils to put on a boot CD, but these can also be put on a flash drive. Great for troubleshooting. 592mb so far.

I suggest also, to stretch your groceries a little further, use a website that will suggest dishes based on the ingredients you have at home. I do this every time I start staring at my fridge and am convinced there's nothing to make, and it's a great way to use perishables up before they go bad due to my uncreativity in the kitchen. I save a lot of money in food costs that way.

I like supercook and myfridgefood and they tend to come up with different things to cook.
