Foster parents were born in the late 1800's. Good eating to them was kraut, green beans, and some sort of meat...which in their case was quail. They grew quail for eggs and meat. We got a new crop of quail about every two weeks with enough for each of us to have one whole quail to ourselves about twice a week.

The other food they ate a lot of, I mean dozens a day, was quail eggs. My old foster mother would crack upwards of 30 a day. With 10 being for scrambled eggs for the two of them. I got 3 fried eggs. The rest for baking or dinner. I had deviled quail eggs before. Delicious.

Cabbage. Lots of root soups. Casseroles. My parents are older. Had Grandparents that were born prior to 1919. So yeah grew up with real depression meals.
