According to Jacques Attali (France's Kissinger) in A Brief History of the Future, phones and social media were created and promoted to further decentralize society so that everyone essentially becomes nomadic. Your social network is now all online and mobile rather than being real and nation based (the traditional sense of the word "nation", not a continent spanning empire sense). All for the further atomization of the individual and so that the social media can be used to control you and eventually kill you through despair and loneliness.

"Don't share your real information online" used to be the law of the land

Instead, this has become "Careful, dont share your real opinion online! Some butthurt leftist will dox you!"

I yearn for the 90s again, when going outside was easier because the internet was slow as shit and stories for games were as deep as the secret Easter eggs because they're face a Shit review. Now people upload play-throughs to YouTube and there is Shit invested in stories. As soon as the plot is revealed then there's no point to playing the story. The Easter eggs, that used to be earned, can now just be bought or found with a simple online search.

I think this is part of the reason why games have devolved into a pay-to-win fps, because it's the simplest model that earns the most that can still be construed as gaming. The alternative is the mobile shit that's been going about...

I will always be in a 90s mindset even while going through the technological singularity.

I agree with everything except upgrading your computer unless you don't really use it for anything other than browsing.
