They obviously have a taste for them. And yeah I've never seen one that big. Its more like a freshwater lobster.

Bass freaking LOVE crawdads/crayfish/whatever. You'll have more luck using them as bait in streams than you will in lakes because its their natural habitat, but they are top bait--up there with hellgrammites.

I've never had a chance to fish streams or rivers. But at the lake back in my hometown that I fished for over a decade. I loved finding crawfish or hellgrammites along side the shoreline. Not only was it free bait but the hellgrammites were more effective than night crawlers. The crawfish were really hit and miss though. Although last year some I was smashing some bass with crawdad rubber baits.
