Not even remotely the same. They could potentially scan millions of stored DNA records in less than a second if they wanted to look for some type of match. Coming to where I live, collecting a sample, and seeing if I'm a match for whatever you're profiling would take days. Multiple that by each potential person you wanted to check.
You're talking 0.5 seconds vs days and days of legwork. That's why many people (myself included) are extremely reluctant to let some entity scan their DNA into a database.
We do not share with third parties your name or other common identifying information linked to your genetic data, except as legally required
Right there in ancestry.com policy. So they'll gladly share your DNA data (without a name) with anyone who wants to buy it. And they'll give away your DNA data including the attached name where "as legally required."

What nationality are you? If you live along the Rome Cologne London axis there is no telling what went into your genepool over the millenia. However most if not all of it is bound to be european.

And now they can sell your dna to whoever the fuck they want. Was it worth it?

You realize of course that any time you leave behind somatic cells any entity could sequence your entire genome, right?

We're all going to need those Genghis Khan genes before this is over. :-)
