So I just read up quickly on the history of Botswana. When the Dutch first colonised they had just started to build stone walled buildings and were ruled by tribes and chieftains. Extremely primitive.
The main character in this, Seretse Khama, died in office in 1980 after ruling Botswana for 15 years straight 'winning' election after election until death. His entire education was given to him by the British Empire. Further 'elected' Presidents of Botswana were his son-in-law Festus Mogae and his son Ian Khama, who is reigning president. Very democratic.
There are also claims he displaced some 'San' tribe from their homes in the diamond mine area of the country, from which all Botswana revenue came from during his reign.
Somehow I think such discussion will be absent from the film.
