Since I wanted it myself too, I quickly coded a quick&dirty greasemonkey script. It's not perfect (as the reddit page loads and then you jump to voat), but is simple and works.

Installation:

  1. Install greasemonkey extension for firefox (or a similar extension for other browsers)
  2. Download and save this: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=1q4FF5fJ as rtov.user.js
  3. Open the script in greasemonkey and install it
  4. Type reddit.com/r/news -> get redirected to voat.co/v/news

If this is implemented, can it at least be turned off by default? I only go to voat so I can get more content when reddit runs dry.

it's a Greasemonkey script, so you can toggle it on/off in your browser
