Hello all! For those of you that I haven't made contact with here or in /v/gaming, I'm @Chai_Ito. I made this sub after I asked about the platform demographics over in /v/gaming and got a huge number of people saying they're emulator fans. I expanded our scope out to OS emulation as well, because why divide when we can unite, amirite?
I have a few points of business that I want to get to while the sub is still growing.
- Good job having excellent taste.
- Two new mods, @serg and @N2 have joined the /v/Emulation team to cover my gaps in emulation knowledge. @serg is your mod-in-residence for emulation on Apple. @N2 specializes in iOS emulation. I'm useless in both of those areas, so it's a pleasure to have them here.
- I'd like to get a feel for what you want to see in /v/Emulation. Right now it's been unfettered, and a lot of people have put forward some great software and articles on the art of emulation. I think it's perfectly fine as-is, but I also feel that we can keep this sub more lively if we pick a few days and dedicate them to having specific topics of discussion.
To elaborate on point 3, I'm (fortunately/unfortunately, it's a mixed bag) going to point at our counterparts over in reddit for what seemed to work well in the subs I subscribed too. I'm suggesting we pick a few days of the week and running specific discussions on them on a regular basis.
As an example, Mondays can be for questions about emulation - either nit-picky troubleshooting or big picture questions about the state of emulation as a whole. Tuesday can be a "what are you playing/emulating/trying to get working" day, with people chipping in little reviews of games they do and don't recommend. Wednesday can be discussion and critiques of emulation software that you run or help code for.
I'm not saying those have to be our exact topics or the days they fall on, but I am curious if anyone in this sub is interested in having these kinds of theme days. My suspicion is having topics a few times a week for the sub to mull over will help grow and sustain activity in this sub as Voat continues to find a userbase. Any comments or suggestions, please leave a comment!
Last thing, since I'm putting up a new sticky and the old one will fall down below other people's more interesting submissions :) If you feel like you have some good knowledge and experience with emulation (especially Linux, Android, and Windows) and want to help moderate this sub, drop a line here or PM me. I'd like to get a team of experienced users to help provide a knowledge base for this sub as well as answer questions from new people when the pop up. I'm not saying that you have to feel like you can answer every question about every kind of emulator on Ubuntu/Lollipop/whatever, since we have a pretty good-sized and growing community already. But if you have some experience and want to help take care of /v/Emulation, let me know :)
Any questions, comments, concerns from anyone? Now's a good time to comment. Thanks again!
