I love GMO. I think it's fantastic.

But, is this making the common error of confusing GMO and selective breeding?

Selective breeding does modify the genetics. GMO is different in that it takes non-native genetic material and splices it in with the plant. The first isn't usually using external genetic material, though that sometimes happens with cross-breeding. GMO is different in that it can do things that nature could not have done with the previous methods.

Again, I think GMO is awesome. I just find much misinformation on both sides and the image that is in the thumbnail is a result of selective breeding, not the GMO that is the current process.

GMO has the specific connotation of being modified via DNA recombination. In today's lexicon GMO and selective breeding are completely different circumstance. Stop conflating the two.

Very informative to see the direct comparision of the modern foods to the ancestral starting varieties
