Hello and welcome to the sub about water loving birdies. This is a learning experience and I hope we'll have a grand time growing and forming this sub together.
If you haven't read all my posts to this subverse, I'm sure you have still picked up on the fact I am learning CSS and this is really just patch work.
I know transparency is a big thing for people and even though this is just a bird sub, I will do my best to keep users in the know on what mod(s) will be doing.
There is definitely intention to add more mods in the future. The minimum requirement is just being a bird lover, but I will be looking for bird owners (specifically water fowl). They'll take priority but I promise to do my best on picking only mods who will uphold the community and those who partake in it. I'm not sure how soon this will happen, but it will be sometime after I get an official CSS installed.
I will be adding informative links eventually. I don't know how to wiki, but maybe I will dive into that as well and create a wikiverse. This will be a conglomeration of user posts as well as outside information/links. Until I decide how to move forward on this, I suggest posting a Q&A or checking backyardchickens.com for any questions you need answers for.
There's no specific direction of this sub. It was created for water fowl (and other bird) lovers. You can post anything from silly WF related memes to informative news articles. Pretty much anything goes. And I greatly encourage posting images/videos of your little feathered friends if you have them – or even just the ones at your local park! (If you have chickens, /v/chickens is a fantastic sub!).
I do want to bar any depressing or drama causing content. Such as duck hunting posts or anything that results in the loss of life for our feathered friends – unless it's a question to prevent or an informative article to avoid!
This sub supports free speech and will try to keep a light hand when it comes to dealing with offensive comments (Example: Your duck should go choke and die cause it's stupid. ← I'd be tempted to delete that for lack of imagination rather than salt level. At least get creative!)
These are the current post flairs that you can use:
Duck - For pictures with ducks or articles about ducks.
Goose - same but with geese.
Swan - same but with swans.
Penguin - same but with penguins.
Video - To help let users know right off the bat. Since I use vid.me and that redirects people.
News - News in regards to water fowl and/or their habitats.
Tips & Care - Tips and Care for bird owners or people who find injured/abandoned birds. Please try to use sources.
Q&A - A poster asks a question (or more) and other users give their answers in the comments! Please try to use sources.
Introduction - For those who want to post about themselves in regards to birds (you are a bird watcher, bird rescuer, just a bird lover, etc)
Other Birds - Because chickens and stuff are really cool too, though I hope there is a sub devoted to our more dry-land birdies.
Meme - Because humor.
I am also looking into adding user flairs once I am comfortable enough. This is what I am looking at so far:
Bird Owner (might be more specific with Duck and Goose since they are popular)
Anti-Bird (might get more specific. We might get people coming who don't like, say, ducks and are just trying to understand them better.)
I am open to any and all suggestions. Also, I request people use sli.mg (almost strictly) and vid.me (loosely). I won't enforce this, it's just preference. Youtube's account set up frustrates me and I would rather avoid it – so any recommendations would be much appreciated.
If you know any subs that could be considered similar, comment them below and I will add them to the side bar!
If the gif used for the side image is annoying, please let me know and I will consider removing it. Just seemed like a fun touch to throw in.
Consider checking back on this post as I might make edit updates. This way I can avoid flooding with pointless update posts and comments won't get lost (because SOOOO many people are commenting here, lol).
Thank You Everyone!
A little about the top mod in case you wanted to know:
I grew up in the country, raised chickens my whole life, rescued a goose, fell in love and bought two ducks. Also had a gander fall in love with me.... awkward.
Edit: I finally figured out the CSS! So now Night and Light more are completely different. Enjoy!
Edit 2: I realize above the way I mentioned hunting and then almost directly after mentioned prevention... I meant prevention in harm befalling WF. Like water poisoning in areas. I didn't mean to relate the two. Because this isn't a sub that's anti-hunting. We just don't want it posted about here. :)
Edit3: Added two tips to the side bar. Will add more as they are posted.
Edit4: I dropped the Penguin flair in favor of adding a Video flair. Since I use vid.me, it might help specify since there is no drop down and people will be redirected.
Edit5: Currently trying to brain storm sticky ideas to create interaction between users. Suggestions would be appreciated!
