It goes to Pasqual's wager; if you don't believe and God and there is you lose. If you do believe in God and there isn't one, you probably live a richer fuller life and there is no eternal consequence of your error.

If you believe in the wrong god you are no better off. Following religion does not equal morally correct choices, or a richer filter life. You might be religious and do those things but being religious does not automatically lead to those things.

But we don't choose what to believe. We believe what we intuit and reason to be true. We follow truth. That is what makes us human. We seek God because God is truth.
