Good way to learn them. Are there any sort of types of nouns to look out for? Any signals? For example, a lot of nouns ending in -chen are neutral, therefore they use "das".
There are several endings which indicate the gender, as well as categories of nouns (precipitation for example). But here's a site with a good overview of how you can guess more accurately.
There are also several scientific publications where linguists try to understand why the genders are the way they are and categorize them.
