My roommate does the same thing; he spoils all the stuff for himself, which to me is most of the experience in playing the game. I could never do it. Hell, when Bloodborne came out I completely shut myself out of most of the Souls subreddits and stayed off Twitch and Youtube. Had to wait maybe 5 months to see / hear anything at all about the game. Literally had no idea what the game was about, what the town was called, anything about the game. I knew nothing, and I liked it that way.

But yeah, experiencing it all anew is the way to go. Play the game maybe two or three times without guides, then start looking up on the tiny bits you may have missed. It's truly the only way to play, for me

Edit: The achievements definitely kept me going for a while, especially in DaS2. Grinding the bell tower took quite some time T_T
