No, not a joke. Brake lines are made out of steel, which is vulnerable to rust, and enamel coatings are known to resist water penetration, which can, in turn, prevent rust. What part of my question confuses you?

The ol' champ in question is on it's 2nd or 3rd generation of brake lines :) And I've learned over the years not to cheap out on parts or cut corners on workmanship.
