I would put in natural features such as rocks, native plants and boulders instead of having to mow that area. Make that entire area rocks. Put a retention wall all around the slope and fill that bitch in. Screw the work that guy had to go through just to have some green grass. Bonus: Saves you on watering.

If he has a HOA then I would sue them for the right to put it in if they have an issue. Most cities will side with you if you want to reduce your grass so that it takes less water.

That slope looks like it would need a 5 story retention wall. Terracing might be a better alternative.

I agree about the rocks. I’d probably do trees and say fuck it.

I doubt he has a hoa.

Possibly about the retention wall, there are more factors into that equation than I can get from the video.

Terracing is a great idea though. Didn't even think of that one.

We both agree that this is beyond insane when it comes to grassy yard.

You can do multiple stepped retention walls. Pain in the ass trying to use a post digger on a incline though.

I worked on a professional lake mowing crew one summer when I was young. There was a place at the dam along side of the road that had a nice scenic overview. Well it had a steep as hell bank along a drop off into a deadly drop into the spillway side of the lake or a plunge into the depths of hell next to the dam.

I ran a ZTR, zero turning radius mower along it as far as I could then one with a big forward deck. That was me trim mowing. The big long side was more than 45 degrees and they mowed it by chaining a batwing mower to a massive truck and lowering it up and down the hillside. With a big crazy fucker on it driving it.

What he couldn't get we had to mountain goat it with weed eaters. It was an Arkansaw lake, luckily it only need mowed a few times a year, not every week.

I bet if he had a Dixon he could mow it. A batwing probably for sure.

Arkansaw! Reeeeeeee! You making fun of my current home state! Son! Lol. I live near Little Rock. I’m a northerner though. A couple of goats are from this great state!

Dam, so that’s how it’s done. I’ve wondered about that a few times.

Bull Shoals was the lake. I took a look at it in street view and it's changed, they've built stuff there now. It looks fancy and not the killer hill that I remember. Someone must have got tired of dicking with it.

I fucked up my knees from 30 years of mowing my backyard

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Seriously I don't understand this US thing of trimming grass, grass is capable of growing on its own just fine and do not need to look like a fake plastic rug all the time. Don't people realize that they hurting the grass, depleting soil and ruin whole micro-ecosystem by this interference? I'm not saying that lawn should be completely abandoned but controlling grass height is ridiculous hobby, in the past people had horses to feed now it serve no purpose

If not mistaken it was a European import. Blame the French!!

Stop mowing your lawns so much! It keeps the grass in pre-pubescent hormonal soil/nitrogen-depleting-growth and kills the earth requiring intense fertilization and providing a losing battle over time until you have to re-seed! grow natural grasses and get a fucking goat or something if you need to tame difficult areas!

I drop my mower only 1 notch. I try to keep the cut at 1/3 only.

Yeah mowing on highest setting is preferable if you have neighborhood rules n all that, but a goat is even better :)

soo many options there for RC fun with that.... not having to pull it but get a power wheel motor and Remote control that thing somehow...

Im workin on my own retention wall due to a hill... he would need terracing but keep half of it sloped for grandkids... but yeah... fuck off

I saw a couple of RC mower builds but haven’t watched yet.

I don’t know if I’d want a gas mower running around and flip over and what not. A proper controller like a Sanwa X11 would be a good add.

I used to race RC electric cars on an indoor payment track.

So, yeah, a couple of cheap weed eaters (or go limo battery) with an electric motor and car battery to power the unit and steering controls would be fun!

Have you seen Japanese retention walls? They work on an angle and thus can hold a lot more back.
