@Nurdoidz I feel like this deserves a spot in the sidebar somewhere, can you arrange that?

Sure thing.

Pretty cool. Thanks @moe for pointing me to this!

I had to change -webkit-user-modify to read-write in order to edit the box. Odd.

Also, while I can tweak rules that already exist, it seems to ignore new rules I add. However, if I add the rule via the inspector (I only tried by going to the textbox itself in the left pane, not with the "+"), then go back to the box can I tweak those rules too. :)

Hm. Which browser/OS are you using?

I haven’t encountered the problem with adding new rules. They should kick in as long as you enter the ending semicolon. Chrome doesn’t even wait for the closing brace.

This is Win7 SP1 and Chrome 42.0.2311.152. I tried the similar -moz rule in FF, but that one won't select the box.

Thanks so much for this. Continuously having to go back and fourth with saving to see if any good changes were made or not was a pain. This is amazing!

This is possibly the most useful thing I have used on Voat. I use it in conjunction with chrome's dev tools, and it makes all CSS possible.

Thank You.

Just thought it might be worth mentioning that this also makes it very easy to see the custom CSS of any subverse that you visit. So if you really like the way that a subverse did something to their sidebar, for example, you can just click on the bookmarklet and (easily) see exactly what they did.

Yes, I know you could see what they did by viewing the page source itself but this is so, so, much more convenient.

I didn’t forget the z-index. There is no need for it — even if the div.content has an arbitrarily large z-index it will never overlap the style#custom_css as a sibling due to relative vs fixed positioning.

The reason the overlay goes under the #container (on this page for example) is because of the unrelated bug that inserts the custom CSS into comments pages twice, once in the body and once inside the container. The former should not exist (as on subverse front pages), so the overlay being a child of #container will never go under it.

But anyway. By all means reuse and modify the code for any purpose :)

Do you click the bookmark with that javascript and then go to your subverse or something? Clicking my bookmark does nothing.

On your subverse (or any subverse), clicking the bookmark should reveal a box in the bottom left containing your custom stylesheet.

Which sub is it not working on?

/v/theuniversim. It's now working, I must have made a mistake. This is so much easier. Thanks for this and your prompt reply. Time to build something beautiful :D.

Chrome 43 on both OS X / Win 8.1. I will test Firefox tomorrow, but it should work.

Can you try a few different scenarios:

  • editing the last rule in the textarea
  • editing a rule in the middle
  • adding a rule to the end

There might be an issue with the stylesheet breaking when you edit in the middle, but it should resolve when you close any curly braces. I'm not sure about Firefox behaviour.

Also, are you using this on a subverse front page, or on a comment page? Comment pages currently have a problem on the Voat backend where the custom stylesheet is inserted twice into the HTML, which might break things further.
