And if someone wants to test if they really understood what they did and would like to mess around a bit more, here's another spritesheet used by Voat (this time without any extra guides): the markdown toolbar

I figured out one way to do it.

I put both the day and night Mail icons into a .png

They images were in the order of No mail, Night mail, and Day mail, going left to right.

I then used this CSS:

#mail.havemail,
#mail.nohavemail {
    background: url( yourimage );
    width: 18px;
    height: 12px;
}

.light #mail.havemail   { background-position: -36px 0; }
.dark #mail.havemail   { background-position: -18px 0; }
#mail.nohavemail { background-position: 0px   0; }

This seems to have gotten missed in the post: code for the Cog Wheel Account Manage Settings:

/* toggle cog wheel-acct mgmt settings */ \#manage { background: url( SPRITE_SHEET_URL ); background-position: -56px 0; width: 16px; height: 16px; }

!Important!: DELETE the \ before the #manage; had to put this in because of Voat reading this as markdown.

I am with /u/JTtheGhost here, how do I have a different mail for night and day?

I made a custom sprite sheet for the Mail icons, and I can get them to show up, but how do I do night and day?
