"I'm not religiously a Jew, I'm culturally a Jew"
You hear it all the time. But what does it really mean? It's wrong anyway. A faithless Jew is merely a secular Arab.
Rewind back in time to approximately 6,000 BC, or so when a particular group of Arabs decide to stop worshiping all the corny dime-store gods like Ba'al and Gilgamesh that their neighbors had invented. Instead they came to the conclusion that there was only one God. Was this the result of a great burning bush speaking to a man known as Moses? I don't claim to know, but most importantly the rest of the above is true, in either case.
So their neighbors get mad at them because, back then, religion was basically a party that everyone was invited to and if you didn't participate then you were being a snob. Wars were fought. By the skin of their teeth, the Jews found a way to survive although everyone banded against them. In the process, the Jews got smart, they had to get organized. But everyone still hated them, because they were snobs.
In getting organized, Jews banned child sex, and rape and extortion, which was pretty much legal and all the rage in the rest of the Middle East. They basically developed laws and what eventually became civil rights. But everyone still hated them, because they were snobs.
And so Jews, which were still merely a fancy monotheistic tribe of Arabs, eventually developed a military alliance with Egypt, who was also fairly advanced at the time. Egypt was militarily powerful. The Pharoah loved Israel, because he could use Israel as a proxy to punish Babylonians and other enemies further east.
Things went well for the Jews, though they were still pretty much just educated Arabs, for quite a while until the Romans invaded. The Romans were the first tribe to actually conquer Israel, home of the Jews. And basically later the Ottomans, or other Arabs that later became the Ottomans, overthrew the Romans, and Israel fell under Ottoman control.
All here know the history of how World War II ended, and how the British helped the descendants of the Jews set up the modern state of Israel. What many people don't consider is how prosperous the West was becoming in the post-War West. Compared to life in shitty war-torn Israel, young Jews found life in places like America to be terrific. Jews emigrated. Even worse, is that as Jews moved West, they were exposed to a more liberal culture. They were drawn to fields such as economics, finance, science and entertainment. Religion quickly declined in terms of importance to Westernized Jews. They became accountants, lawyers, professors. Religion was something that their grandparents used to do on a Saturday, before the invention of comic books and video games.
Obviously, this posed a problem to the puppet masters back in Israel. Young, military-age Jews were jumping the boat. And so some particular asshole or other came up with the idea - a fairly recent one - to teach young, secular Jews that they were cultural Jews, to insist that Jews had both a race and a culture. Even though they were effectively just Westernized Arabs.
This is the origin of the myth of Jews having a separate race, tribe or culture. They don't. A secular Jew is merely a shaved Arab.
Please sticky this.
