Mmm.

You're not trying to suggest that we should take revenge first? Just in case:

The verse is very clearly DO NOT take revenge, God will. The Aramaic is the only English translation that says "If YOU do not take revenge..." The verse itself at the start in the Aramaic also alludes to this: "And be ye not avengers of yourselves"

Going of the most recent written copies of the NT we have (koine), we get:

http://qbible.com/greek-new-testament/Romans/12.html#19

μὴ ἑαυτοὺς ἐκδικοῦντες, ἀγαπητοί, ἀλλὰ δότε τόπον τῇ ὀργῇ, γέγραπται γάρ Ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις, ἐγὼ ἀνταποδώσω, λέγει Κύριος.

lest to-selves coursing-out-unto, Excessed-off-unto, other ye-should-have-had-given to-an-occasion unto-the-one unto-a-stressing, it-had-come-to-be-scribed therefore, Unto-ME a-coursing-out I I-shall-ever-a-one-give-off, it-fortheth, Authority-belonged.

Some can interpret "ye-should-have-had-given to-an-occasion" directly as "you are entitled to do this, had you done so". But the word itself DOTE, is just a form of DIDOMI.

https://www.billmounce.com/greek-dictionary/didomi

δότε, when used in that form is just "you give".

NASB collection of use also confirms this (which includes Aramaic sources)

add (1), allow (2), bestowed (4), cause (2), commanded* (1), dealing (1), drew (1), gave (79), give (122), given (117), gives (14), giving (12), grant (15), granted (10), granting (2), leave (1), make (1), offer (2), pass (1), pay (5), permitted (1), pour (1), poured (1), produce (1), produces (1), producing (1), put (6), puts (1), putting (1), show (1), struck* (1), utter (1), venture* (1), yielded (3).

So try not to hold onto obscure one out of a hundred translations as the core meaning.

We have no need to avenge ourselves but we certainly need to judge ourselves sober- mindedly.

Ourselves only? If one in every 2 people, judged the first, the west would not be where it is today.
