Here is the blog post: http://edwardspoonhands.com/post/150659914715/whats-your-take-on-for-lack-of-a-better-term (the tumbler echo chamber irony is not lost on me)
Mr Response/Analysis:
"Here’s what I think…these ideas about how words have deep and sometimes hidden impacts on people…they developed in isolation at academic institutions. They sat around in the collective consciousness of liberal-arts educated folks like myself for a long time before finally leaking out as the internet brought over-educated people together with people who had never been exposed to these ideas."
The astute observation of this coming from academia and being over educated is a good start. Being educated on what others with similar opinions think does not mean they are right. We know that these fields have a intellectual diversity problem, study replicatability problem, and worst of all a intellectual supremacist mindset problem. This does not mean every individual but it is rampant and it seems to be a problem of the vast majority.
"When that started happening, it mostly resulted in harmless frustration as people who were 10 steps deep into these issues expressed frustration at people who were busy living lives that did not include feminist critique (and vice versa)."
It started when religious zealots 10 steps deep started demanding their faith based feminist critique be spread and was correct despite resistance suggesting it was NOT a correct analysis. Then these zealots escalated things got aggressive and when the response still did not bend to their will they entrenched and just started escalating continuously. Hence the cute nickname Warrior and more recent addoptions from SJW's calling THEMSELVES social Justice CRUSADERS. yes crusaders are so defensible historically, Hey look at these idiots lets conquer them with our crusade. I mean it is not like we look at historic crusades as barbaric preemptive attacks that hurt civilians more than anyone right?
Now the next note Hank makes is just analyzing conflict and it's escalation but the primary escalators were those saying "I know better than you you have to do as I say and should be jailed/silenced for not accepting my authority on this" not those saying "fuck off cunt I will cut you if you keep getting closer. I told you I disagree"
"The anti-SJW side never actually got exposed to the original arguments, they were either exposed to the worst reactions of angry feminists or to the imagined, inflamed, and even impersonated versions that have popped up over the last few years."
Here Hank starts his assumption brigade. He does not want to face the potential of being wrong so his opposition must ALL be idiots who did not bother looking into the material they disagree with. Why else would they disagree with what SJW's believe right? It can't be that maybe he is wrong and maybe we see that words are safer in public more than being suppressed. It is not like people form underground groups and get violent when they are likely to be arrested or silenced when they speak up right?
Next he blindly defends his allies and suggests that people were never actually attempted to be silenced when they refused to accept the new religious faith based assertions and then suggests most people who disagree are bad and stupid because they are mostly young, white, and men while recognizing ironically that this is just an assertion of the majority and ignoring the minority. Poetic irony here that he can justify to himself ignoring minorities. I mean it can't be that it is because they are people and reflect societies genetic profile right? I mean ethnicity is very important so we can just focus on the majority and their genetic characteristics and ignore the groups majority arguments.
At the end I will agree shouting at us and ignoring our "frustrations" (I like this word used in loo of points) is not how to make a better world.
I am sending this to Hank as despite my political disagreement on this issue I am still a fan. I hope he doesn't just ignore it like Kristi winters calling me a "straight white male" hahahaha I mean three phobias in one phrase from a professor who claims to be against such things is A hilarious irony.
