If I remember my organic chemistry from back in the mists of time, organic refers to carbon chain chemistry. Many organic molecules can be synthesised in the lab without needing anything living preceding it.
Methane lakes can be found on planets in our solar system where no living thing has ever been. Methane is an organic molecule.
