Makes sense; is there any sources I could look up that discuss this in more detail?

Also, what time frame was this? Did it start in the late 60s with Black Sabbath, or later in the early 80s with the whole Tipper Gore thing?

It started with the first Punk Rock and Heavy Metal bands, because it was a psy-op operation. After a while normal bands joined the Heavy Metal genre, when it become highly profitable. You can tell the difference by their normal behavior, melodic music and intelligent lyrics. Thanks god normal people invented Grunge Rock that made Punk Rock and Heavy Metal disappear.
