Actually there's a popular myth in the firearms community about training with cheap FMJ then using JHP loads for self defense. Problem with that logic is it only works if you have two separate pistols as a lot of what you run in compact pistols will season it to only run smoothly with the type of ammo you've been practicing with. Rifles, pump action, and revolvers don't succumb to this issue quite the same way double action pistols do. You'll find that when it comes to service life pistols are really finicky this way. Some manufacturer's are better than others but I've only seen this true of some Czech designs. Hell my own military has a safety committee to ensure we are only buying munitions with the exact same manufacturer specs for live fire. Too many C7 rifles were getting screwed up using training ammo and US M885 green tip.
