Yes. It takes a bit of digging and understanding history in the Near East prior to and during Jesus life.

Basically “Jews” aka Pharisees were “Edomites” from the tribe of Esau (Jacobs older brother) who invaded Israel while the Israelites aka Hebrews (from the tribe of Jacob) were in captivity in Babylon.

After the Hebrews came back, they again segregated and though they shared common history and faith there were major differences hence why the NT mentions Pharisees and Saducces so often. In fact the Pharisees who borrowed heavily from Babylonian religion are the ones who inspired modern day Judaism.

Basically modern day Jews are the Pharisees that Jesus hated and he wasn’t one of them as he believed in the ancient Torah that wasn’t adulterated
