I love watching e-sports. I play way too much right now, and watching gamers who are in the top 1% do it is something amazing.

However.

The olympics, man. Bodies trained to superhuman levels. People gifted with that one little genetic mutation, that next little step in human physical evolution. Every year, there's one or two that the media and the fans zoom in on. And it's not for their minds, or their personility, or even really their looks. It because of the way they have developed themselves. It's a visual thing.

And then there is chess.

Hey now. Don't knock curling - it's great fun. Only team event I consistantly follow.

I lol'd. You have a point. However, I would say that at the very least, curling requires years of practise to excel at, requires a gift for balance and precision, and there is no world "championship" curling event (that I know of. Hope I am not the next victim of somebody's google-fu)
