Open discussion is awesome, but I wouldn't call it a open discussion if half of it is calling the other side "stupid goy" and "shill" and "sheeple" and downvoting into oblivion. Certain groups feel extremely strong around here while more moderate opinions are buried in the noise.

Sure, but it becomes a problem when any other opinion gets buried and hidden because of the downvotes. That just makes it harder for me to defend myself because then I'm alone against 50 people.

You shouldn't mind the ad hominem rhetoric you get. You won the argument by then and can only wait for another user to give his opinion about the subject.

Vitriol doesn't always = ad hominem. Mockery is not a signal that you've won the argument.
