Honestly, as Voat makes interaction pretty much compulsory (highly incentivized), I am seeing that more people are posting more frequently. This means that in the coming weeks, there are going to be a huge amount of Subs and a huge amount of people browsing them. It is only a matter of time.

The problem is that's also a barrier to lurkers. Why would people who don't care about website politics choose a subverse with fewer submissions and subscribers that forces them to post content when they could just browse the equivalent subreddit with more content, more comments, and (probably) better CSS?

How much does voting matter to lurkers?

I could be wrong but my impression is this is the only thing participation is needed for and even with no posts at all you get ten upvoats a day.

Well, freedom in general. Reddit is actively trying to become a "safer" space, even now with Pao gone. Put simply, reddit would start to remove stuff, stuff that was not illegal. I can honestly imaging a reddit where simply putting the word "Faggot" in a comment would give you an error message and ask you to rephrase, highlighting words that must be "fixed". Get it?

I agree with you completely that's why I'm keeping my old reddit account. I don't mind logging into R-tit for help with my niche problem.

I believe this all depends what sort of culture voat wants to become. As long as reddit exist we will be the second choice as 'front page of the internet', and that's fine by me. Because of reddits userbase they can afford themselves having niche subreddits, but, they all stay in the same echochamber.

Voats advantage now is that everybody is hopped together which means there is polarisation which results in discussion between right-wing and left-wing, atheist and theist. This is voat advantage. We have actual debates between opposing viewpoints.

I would say niche subreddits is the actual downfall of sites like reddit as everyone is hopping into his internet corner and actual discussion fades away and before you know it karmawhoring jackassess taking over the defaults which results in even more 'normal' users to flee to their niche subreddits.
