I think we've actually removed ourselves from the natural way a species would evolve.
Globalisation means we now can access, and do access pretty much every corner of the globe. A subset of humans could no longer be isolated long enough to evolve different traits and become a new species.
Our technology is advancing to the point where we can comfortably live in almost all areas of our planet, the need to adapt to climate change is diminishing as our technology can and will adapt faster.
Our various medical advances and welfare states mean a much higher percentage of disease and disorders survive in the gene pool and can continue through generations. Gene therapy looks to advance to the point we could manipulate it anyway.
We have reached a point where we have stepped from that path. The homo sapiens are the last of the humans to evolve naturally.
